Tenuta Di Trinoro, Tuscany

"Why can’t I make the wines I want to drink..?" A rockstar, an eccentric and a perfectionist are some of the ways in which Andrea Franchetti has been described. Born into Italian-American 'aristocracy' in New York, he quit school at the age of 17, despite his family connections and wealth ensuring him an elite education. He cycled and hitchhiked to Afghanistan, dabbled a bit as an extra in B-grade Italian film noir and basically "played around" (in his own words) with alcohol and drugs until the age of 32, when he decided "to put on a tie and work." He returned to Italy and set up Tenuta di Trinoro in Tuscany, and a few years later, Passopisciaro on the slopes of Mount Etna.
"I love Andrea Franchetti and his winery, which is of quite remarkable renown..."Jancis Robinson
"a superstar estate" ... with "a perfectionist winemaker."Robert Parker
