En Primeur

Also known as Wine Futures, En Primeur refers to the process of buying wines before they are bottled and released onto the market.

Wines are purchased exclusive of duty (approximately €3.19/btl) and VAT and then usually shipped 2-3 years after the harvest. They can only be purchased by the unmixed case. Keep in mind that generally speaking, the en primeur price of a wine is the cheapest price that wine will ever be purchased at.

The purchase price of the wines (excluding duty and VAT) is payable upon ordering, to confirm your allocation of that wine. Remember, you will not receive the wine immediately, as it will not have been released yet.

When the wines are released by the châteaux in Bordeaux, they are shipped to our warehouse ‘under bond’. This mean that they are shipped without any duty or VAT being charged. Once the wines come out of bond (when they are delivered to you for example), the duty and VAT are payable immediately to Irish Revenue. We will pay this on your behalf and invoice you for the amount payable to us. Depending on how long you have asked for the wine to remain in storage, there may be a storage charge too.

A description of the wine and prices will be set out in our en primeur price list and in specific vintage brochures. All prices are quoted in bond and are inclusive of freight and delivery to Pembroke Wines’ warehouse in Ireland. Prices may vary due to fluctuations in the market and to stock not being sold.

The en primeur campaign usually runs between June and August every year with payment for wiens ordered due by early September of the same year.
